Artist. Educator.
What does that mean?
My passion for educating young people started when I, too, was a young person. In high school, I had the opportunity to work with an arts urban education program, Arts Alive. There, I was granted the opportunity to teach a theatre class to students whose school lacked the funding to provide arts classes. I was unseasoned, niave, and in love with what I was doing. Despite needing to report to the school on a Saturday morning.
Many loans later, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Educational Theatre from New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Communications, and Human Development. Since my first day as teacher, at the ripe age of 16, I have worked as a teaching artist for two TYA touring companies, taught in the elementary and secondary classroom, and created curriculums for everything from summer camp, to afterschool arts programming, to my own high school advanced acting classroom. Currently, I am the Director of Outreach and Programming for The 14th Street Y Teen Theatre Summer Camp, working with partners from MCC Theater, Amas Musical Theatre, and Red Fern Theatre Company to create a four-week summer camp for teens in and around New York City.
